Book 1 in this series

  • Book 1: The Garden That Forgot Its Colours (this book)

How it begins

On the bottom shelf, your child's name finds a big blue book. It has seven stars on the cover. Not one of them shines. "Open it," whispers their Pet. "Go on!"

The pictures inside are not finished. Some are only pencil lines. On the first page there is a tiny paper door. Clink! A golden key drops out of the page. Then a little voice calls through the door: "Oh, good. You've come!"

Your child's name and their Pet step through the door into a garden. But something is wrong. Every flower is white. The leaves are pale. In places the paint just stops, and there is only paper. It is very, very quiet.

A tiny fairy zips out of a tulip. "Our colours have gone missing!" she cries. "I'm Tansy, and this is my garden. Since the storm, every colour has gone. Every single one!" "Where did they go?" asks your child's name. "That," says Tansy, "is what we have to find out."

Tansy holds up her dandelion brush. "I'll just paint them back," she says. Dab, dab, dab! Fluffy seeds fly everywhere. The petal is still white. "It worked in my head," says Tansy, and sniffs. "Fine. We'll find out properly."

Dandelion fluff tickles their Pet's nose. ACHOO! The fluff blows off the path, and underneath are tiny footprints, leading away under the ferns. At the same moment, a small voice sobs among the daisies. Who first?
